Scott W. Kauma, M.D., FACOG, joined the Jones Institute at West Penn Allegheny Health System at its formation in June 2003. He serves as clinical program director for the Institute, as well as director of the Divisions of Reproductive Endocrinology at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital.
Dr. Kauma received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, Wisconsin, where he also completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. He completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at The University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill.
Prior to joining West Penn Allegheny Health System, Dr. Kauma served in a number of roles at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, including associate director of the General Clinical Research Center; director of research for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and professor of the departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Physiology. Throughout his career, Dr. Kauma has been awarded more than $15.5 million in grants by the National Institutes of Health and other foundations for a variety of research projects, of which he served as the principal investigator.
A fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Kauma is a member of numerous scientific, honorary and professional societies, including the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, the Endocrine Society, the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. He has served on several major committees for the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation.
Dr. Kauma is a regular member of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section for the National Institutes of Health. Additionally, he serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Reproductive Immunology and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is a peer-review journal referee for twelve additional medical journals. He has presented at more than 50 sessions, grand rounds, seminars and postgraduate programs, and is the author of numerous papers, abstracts and books.
