Evaluation for Adhesions or Endometriosis

The infertility evaluation often requires an assessment of the condition of the outside of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. This evaluation checks for the presence or absence of adhesions, endometriosis and other disorders that can result in infertility. Evaluation for adhesions or endometriosis is typically performed in a hospital as an outpatient surgery done under general anesthesia. A small telescopic device is inserted into the abdominal cavity through a small incision made in the naval. It is through the telescopic device that the doctor can view the reproductive organs. If adhesions or endometriosis are present, they can be treated during the procedure. The surgery typically takes less than one hour, and the vast majority of patients are released from the hospital within 3-4 hours after surgery.
